10-day itinerary
Whether you’re booking your trip independently or through a travel advisor, here are helpful ideas of what you may like to see if you want to discover more about Costa Rican culture.
day 1
arrive in San José
Touch down at Juan Santamaría Airport. Then travel to the Arenal Volcano.
days 2-3
arenal volcano national park
Just outside of Fortuna, a soaring volcano dominates the landscape and a namesake lake just below. Conservation efforts keep this land pristine, so you can hike, kayak, fish or soak in one of the nearby hot springs.
days 4-7
santa teresa and malpaís
Find a comfortable hangout in the land of surfing, stunning sunsets and white-sand beaches. Relax on the beach or in any of the hip cafes and restaurants. If you decide you want some adventure, you can hike, go ziplining, take an ATV tour and visit waterfalls.
Take a boat to the Cabo Blanco Natural Reserve and enjoy the sight of sea birds nesting. Along the way, you may spy dolphins, jumping fish or even whales.
Mal País is just a few kilometers from Santa Teresa and, despite the ominous name, offers prime spots for surfing, fishing, kitesurfing and scuba diving.
days 8-9
nosara
Nosara is a famous location for surfing, yoga and some of the freshest fruit smoothies. Relax on the white-sand beaches or walk the footpaths with views of the ocean.
The Ostional Wildlife Refuge is nearby and Kemp’s ridley sea turtles, leatherback sea turtles and green sea turtles all use this site for nesting during September and October. Accredited guides can show you how to tour the region without interfering with the nesting process.
day 10
departure from Liberia Airport
Head over to Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport to catch your departing flight and start planning your next trip to Costa Rica.
