This gorgeous town is located in the canton of Santa Cruz de Guanacaste. It’s a private resort that began construction in 2006 on the Pacific coast.
Its main aim was to create a tourist center that was free of automobiles and completely walkable for visitors.
One of its main attractions is its location, surrounded by pristine beaches such as Playa Danta and Playa Dantita, and close to Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia.
It is also close to beaches like Brasilito, Penca, Conchal and Flamingo.
The buildings incorporate the principle of new urbanism, which seeks to create environments that are more conducive to human connections and enjoyment.
Las Catalinas is located amidst 404 hectares of hills and valleys of tropical dry forests with views of the sea. There is also an extensive network of trails that are perfect for hiking, biking, running, competitions or just relaxing.
You can also try out stand-up paddleboarding, diving, snorkeling, kayaking out to see the sunset, or enjoy options including restaurants, hotels, spas and tour services. The available accommodations include hotels, apartments and houses with private pools.
Another activity tourists enjoy is wandering through the town to take pictures of the buildings and photographing the beautiful sunsets.
Around the islands that dot the area, visitors can take in sights like manta rays jumping out of the water – sometimes hundreds at a time, almost as if it was choreographed.
The best time to visit this part of the country is during the dry season, which lasts from December to April, though you can visit year-round.
