| GENERAL INFORMATION
Since 1963, after being declared as protected area, the natural regeneration of the forest could take place. Visitors may appreciate the way in which Nature has rebuilt the forest.
The Cabo Blanco Absolute Natural Reserve is more than a monument to hope for a better future for humanity; it’s an example of nature in search of balance. It has an extension of 1,254 ha.; on the land part and 1,700 ha., on the marine part.

LOCATION |
It’s located on the extreme south of the Nicoya peninsula, on the North Pacific littoral, 18 km from the community of Cóbano and 11 km from the tourist village of Montezuma, on the district of Cóbano, province of Puntarenas. It belongs to the Tempisque Conservation Area. |

MAIN ATRACTIONS |
The reserve has basically two types of forest: The original one of this area or primary forest, and the regenerated one or secondary forest. Around 140 tree species are found in the reserve, among which we can mention the espavel (wild cashew), sonzapote (licamia platypus), ojoche (brosimum alicastrum) and guácimo colorado (luehea seemannii).
The fauna of the area is very varied and it’s possible to spot squirrels, deer, howler monkey, coatis and agoutis, among other species. There are also numerous marine birds, among them: brown pelicans, magnificent frigate birds and brown boobies. The marine fauna is represented by high populations of fish, crabs and mollusks such as the chiton, conch (mesogastropoda strombidae), among others. Part of the reserve is the Cabo Blanco Island, which is a large rock emerging from the sea, located at 1,600 meters from the south end of the peninsula.
